Transcription: In electrical discharge machining, or EDM, a current is passed between a thin conductive wire and a conductive part. The sparks produce charge buildup and thermal stress, causing particles to break off or vaporize. An EDM operation can easily achieve precisions of five hundredths of a millimeter for hand-sized parts. Precisions of five thousandths of a millimeter are considered challenging for this operation.
